Arthritis Update: Steroids and their effect on my weight

When I first developed arthritis (read the origin story here), I was in an indescribable amount of pain due to inflammation in a range of my joints. One way to help with inflammation is to take anti-inflammatories, of which I am unfortunately allergic to, which means I was put on steroids from the get-go. For the most part, I am extremely grateful for the steroids that I took both orally and via injections I had in my knees. However, there are side effects (as per my other medication) that are not so fun. This includes gaining a large amount of weight.

I didn’t weigh myself until Oct 2018 as I was too scared to see how much weight I had put on since Dec 2017 and as I suspected, when I finally did weigh myself, I was the heaviest I have ever been. Weight is most certainly not the most important thing in the world and I try not to concentrate on it too much (and have more of a focus on just being healthy and having a balanced lifestyle), but, I am also super stoked to have started to take off some of the weight caused by both the steriods and my lack of ability to do as much exercise/general walking around.

I want to note that pictures can be deceiving, as I can look different in pictures one day from the next, even when I’m the same weight. However, it’s still fun to do a before and after picture and see the difference 14kgs makes. I look forward to continuing to focus on my health, both mentally and physically and hopefully losing a few more kgs too✌🏻
